SSH, or Secure Shell, is a network protocol used to connect to a web server and execute different tasks using a command line. The protocol is preferred by many experienced users, because the information transmitted over it is encrypted, so it can't be intercepted on the way by a 3rd party. SSH access could be used for a lot of things depending on the type of web hosting account. With a shared hosting account, for instance, SSH is one of several ways to import/export a database or to upload a file when the website hosting server allows it. When you have a virtual or a dedicated server, SSH may be used for just about anything - you could install software or restart particular services like the web server or the database server that run on the machine. SSH is employed typically with UNIX-like Platforms, but there are clients which permit you to use the protocol if your computer is using a different OS too. The connection is made on TCP port 22 by default and the remote hosting server always listens for incoming connections on that port even though a number of service providers change it for security reasons.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting

If the cloud web hosting plan that you’ve picked through the signup process comes with SSH access by default, you will be able to activate this function with simply a mouse click inside your Hepsia CP. If you have chosen a different plan, the SSH access feature may be added via the Upgrades menu and it will become available immediately. All the details you need to connect will be conveniently listed inside the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You could also set what password to use from the same location and you will be able to change it at any time. All the commands which are allowed are listed inside the Help articles that we have prepared for you, along with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of enabling SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided by default with some of our semi-dedicated server packages, while with others you may add it via the hosting CP if needed - even only for the current month. In either case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with only one mouse click via the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username needed to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you may type the password that you'd like to use, as it doesn't need to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better protection, you may also change it as often as you want. A complete list of the commands that can be performed within a semi-dedicated account is available in our Knowledge Base, together with the syntax and several examples. An extra feature after SSH access is allowed will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to manage your content regardless which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, because all our plans provide this feature by default. You won't have to include or enable anything by hand - the instant your hosting server is ready and you get the Welcome e-mail with the login credentials, you can connect and start working on your Internet sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and due to the fact that the account will be isolated from all the other accounts in the physical hosting server, you'll be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You can set up any app you need and which will work on a Linux-based hosting server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases quickly and easily.
